Dear Collegues,members of oun university ,students and the press 
       Welcome to the ceremony we have organised for the opening of 2004 - 2005 Academic year. By Hishing the new Academic year be beneficial and aspicious for our participators ourcitiy and our country i greet you with respect.
       On 18 October 26th, foundation anniversary of our University we will have the opening ceremonies of Faculty of Law the fountadion ofverhich was laid last year and built by the Özbıyıks and Göknars , Boydak primany school built by Mr.Hacı Boydak and the new rectorial building the foundation of which was laid about eleven years ago and also the ceremany of faundation laying of social sciences vocational school which wiil be built by Mr.İzzet Bayraktar.
       The torch "Erciyes Üniversity model" which was lit by our the president Süleyman Demirel and one of our former Rectors Prof .Dr. Mehmet Şahin has been also carried by successor manayers and it caused over 60 million investments made by our charitable fellow countryman.
       Our universtiy has completed its substructure to a great extent thanks to our fellow countryman who spend their money for the education and health of the country by feeling themselves a part of the land they were born in. I want to thank to the benefectors who have confidence in us. We will also conti nue to carry this torch.
       As you know ,Gevher Nesibe Medicine Faculty and Engineering Faculty which was co-established with Hacettepe Üniversity in 1969 realized the establishment of Erciyes Üniversity in 1978 .For the last twenty -six years, our üniversity has had 17 faculties 7 vocational high school 4 instutites and this year it can give an education to 30,000 students with its 1,535 academic and 1,483 administrative staff. With its 1536 beds The hospital of Medicine Faculty has become a reference hospital for a population of 15 million.

Dear guests and students,

       Providing our academic and administrative staff with the logical and scientific point of views is one of our most important aims. The world is changing at a high speed. In our changing world, it is no longer possible to be the best"only through knowledge because knowledge is continuously being renewed. The most important instrument to understand the changing world are to know how to reach the knowledge, to acquire the habit of thinking wide and an objective but inquring point of view.

       Athought the system which can continually renew itself in accordance with the modern conditions ; has üniversal gualities ;and suggests social,cultural and scientific improvement is a necessity(Human)intellegence,logic and scientific data are the basis of every field.
       "In the world, for materialistic things, for life, for success shortly for everything science and technology are the most realistic guides.Looking for a guide outside the science and technology is defined as either ignorance or an ulterior motive.It is necessary to understand only the improvement on time. We cannot say that attempting to follow the rules of the science of thousands of years ago is not of course being in the science and technology.(M.K.Atatürk).The founder of our republic , the great leader , Ataturk also would always rely on intellect and sanity , and take science as the basis ;
He left science and intellect to us as abstract heritage
Universities have four basic missions.
1- ) To generate knowledge and technology
2- ) To produce educated manpower
3- ) To create values of culture and art
4- ) To offer their emerging products in the interest of the society and the country.While fulfilling this mission universities should determine their quality and visions.
       It is no longer enough to graduate from a university. Being a graduate of a good university gives advantage . There is also a diffirence between being a member of teaching staff in any university and being one in a good university. In our time a university should not be content with conferring degrees , but should also ensure that the students and members of teaching staff receive a good education . Universities must expand vertically rather than laterally . Those universities which cannot complete this mission will fade among the ever- incseasing tertiary teaching inststutıons.
       Even the wealth of nations are determined not by the underground or aboveground resources they they possess but by the quality of their human resources . Therefore the foremost way of improving the quality in universities is to invest in man.
       Turkish people are in dire need of high-quality education, and families are ready to make every sacrifice to provide their children with education of good quality. This is probably the greatest wealth of our country .A resource of about one million dollars is funnelled for those students who go abroad in search of high guality education.
       If the quality of our university improves , the number of the students who go abroad may relatively go down and foreign students may come to our university in numbers to offset this.
E.U is aiming to become a university which has a high capacity to compete ,in the ield of international education and research and thus contributing to the national and international education and research fields, and which gives its students professors and partners a high Merit.
       The members of the European Universities , Association , made a visit to our university on our invitation between 4 October and 8 October . This visit made a great ontritibution to euro was offered to our 7 procects within the european educational programme. We are worhing on students and professor exchangre and cooperative projects with European Universities We have taken prominent steps about the educational partnership with U S and South Korea.
       One of the missions of a university is to work one technology. The cooperation between a university and the industry must not be limited to written documents .We are about to start the techno park projet .
       We have taken steps concernig the improvement of faculty of arts .
       Our university has made some important investments in the Sümer campüs. Technical education faculty and the earthguake resarch instutite was faunded and hauses were built for the professors . Some effarts were also made to found Texale Engneering faculty a textile labratory and industry museum and a vocational school. This campas is a very emninent opportunity for Kayseri in terms of a second universty
       Our universty owes a lot to former rectors and directors to its professors to the presidents of the country and especially to the charity lover Kayseri people for it is fast improvement Our charitable people are stating condially that their contibutions to our üniversity I give may thanks to them on benaIf of my universtiy.

Dear Academic staff
       You are the building stones of our university and You are the ones who will take our country to the up level of contemporary civilizations by carrying the mission and the vision of university to bright future.Despite the fact that our contry is in the economic pressure reflecting to us, your efforts are great, for that reason I want to thank you and wish you a successful, healthy and happy new academic year.
Dear Students
       You are the bright future of our country.You should cling to your studies, establish good dialogues with your lecturers and you should guestion as well. You shouldnt neglect to use the facilities of culture and sport in the university.You mustnt leave the line showed by Atatürk' s principles and revolations when you fulfil your responsibilities during the perod you are in the university,you will begin to work as individuals eguipped with the universal values doing researches, guestioning and competing and having a developed consciousness of culture, art and environment.
       I want to present my love wishing yo constantly to have the honour and the proud of being an Erciyes University student.
Dear Parents ,
       We are aware of the fact that you entrusted your children to our care.We regard them as our own daughters and sons. We will not avoid making any sacrifices to grow them as contemporary individuals following wing Atatürks principles which can prevent them from any dangers, loving theır country ,having free thought beeing, democratic,respecting human rights and being self sufficient.

I believe that our university will be able to be successfullwith the valuable contributions of academic and administrative staff and students.I present my respects with the wish of having a prolific and successful academic year in the peaceful atmosphere, hand in hand with the guidance of great Atatürk and mind and science in cooperation for and Erciyes üniversity which is competitive and contemporary providing a good education and higher living standards to all its staff considering pluralism affluence of different ideas and conscious of sport, art culture and environment.
