Our Rector meets with the Journalists

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çalış met with the representatives of print and visual media organizations on the occasion of “January 10 Working Journalists’ Day”.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çalış, our Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Murat Borlu, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sıtkı İlkay and Prof. Dr. Recai Kılıç, Secretary General Murat Yenisu, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Hakan Aydın, Vice Secretaries General Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kasım Özgen and Venhar Çokkeçeci, Chairman of Kayseri Journalists’ Association Metin Kösedağ, print and visual media representatives and many journalists attended the event held at Erciyes Culture Center.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of Kayseri Journalists’ Association Metin Kösedağ thanked our Rector for hosting the event.

In his speech, our Rector congratulated the January 10 Working Journalists’ Day of the press members. Sharing the “ERU 2021 Activity Summary” at the event, Rector Çalış gave information about the one-year activities of ERU. He said: “Erciyes University is a well-established university with its deep-rooted history. We carry out successful projects with 19 faculties, 7 graduate schools, 1 school, 2 vocational schools and 42 research centers. We are proud that our University has been once again among the research universities of our country. Research universities were determined with the participation of the President of Council of Higher Education and the Minister of Industry and Technology. The number of research universities which was previously determined as 11 has been increased to 20 this year. We are very happy to be in the top 10. We worked very hard with all the members of our team for this purpose. Thankfully, our university ranked 8th and we received our Research University Certificate from the President of Council of Higher Education and the Minister of Industry and Technology. When we took office in 2018 and discussed about the problems, we saw that we were really in trouble in the context of a research university. We spent 80% of our time on research university parameters. As a result, we have achieved a success.

Giving information about the domestic vaccine TURKOVAC, developed by our University against Covid-19 and supported by the Ministry of Health and Health Institutes of Turkey (TUSEB), our Rector said: “Our TURKOVAC studies were quickly supported by the budget of our University, and in the following process, the studies were supported by the Ministry of Health and Health Institutes of Turkey (TUSEB). The name of the vaccine has been determined as TURKOVAC by our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Throughout the year, we shared every development with you. Thankfully, thus, we have received the biggest award that our university has ever obtained. TURKOVAC has been considered worthy of the Community Service Award within the scope of the Council of Higher Education (CoHE) Excellence Awards. It is also a great pride for us.”

Drawing attention to the fact that our University has been fully accredited for a period of 5 years by the Higher Education Quality Council, our Rector stated that they continue to lead in every field.

After the speeches, our Rector presented a plaque to the Chairman of Kayseri Journalists’ Association Metin Kösedağ on behalf of all press members.
