ENERGY CONVERSION RESEARCH
           AND APPLICATION CENTER
           (ECRAC)

The Energy Conversion Research and Application Center
(ECRAC) was established in 1998. The center’s mission is to
conduct research on energy generation and conversion pro-
cesses and applications to increase energy efficiency. ECRAC
focuses on the following research topics:
RESEARCH CENTERS • Energy-efficient conversion technologies and applications
           • Energy efficiency

           • Environment-friendly and renewable energy resources
           • Energy management

The first application project of the center is the Erciyes Solar
House. In the first phase of the project, the house is heated
using solar air heating collectors. In the second phase, liquid
           flat-plate solar collectors are utilized.
This project is the first application in Turkey on solar floor
heating. Another solar heating project is applied to the indoor
sports hall of the university. This project was the largest ap-
plication of active solar heating in Turkey.
As an example of the current activities of the center, the
fourth Battery Technologies and Energy Systems Workshop
was recently held successfully in collaboration with ECRAC,
ASPILSAN, and Engineering Faculty. Furthermore, the center
is awarded the third rank for two projects among 348 applica-
tions. The first awarded project is on energy efficiency appli-
           cations in the University Hospital.
The second is a PV solar implementation project on the roof
of the Engineering School. Both projects are awarded within
the scope of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency
Technical Assistance Project for Municipalities and Universi-
ties (YEVDES), which is carried out by the Turkish Ministry of
Energy and Natural Resources with the funding of the Euro-
           pean Union.
ECRAC seeks opportunities for national and international col-
           laborations on multi-disciplinary research activities.
