GENOME AND STEM CELL
           CENTER (GENKOK)

science, translational medicine, especially in the stem cell field
as well as providing an opportunity for establishing collabo-
rations with scientists from other countries. As of today, the
center has organized 5 international workshops, an interna-
tional conference and ERU’s first Erasmus Intensive Program.
GENKOK has also started international collaborations with 17
RESEARCH CENTERS their post graduate education abroad. Currently, we have
different centers and various universities. At the center there
are more than 50 researchers; most of them have received

two prominent international researchers from France and
Italy, and long-term scientific partnership from Germany, The
Netherlands and USA, that have joined ERU as academic staff.
There are numbers of national and international funding sup-
ported projects are being held in the center.
The center will not only provide the research opportunities,
but also serve as a place for education. Six interdisciplinary
master and Ph. D. programs of stem cell and regenerative
           medicine, molecular biology, neuroscience, bioinformatics,
metabolism and chronic diseases, plant biotechnology, clini-
cal researches are currently being provided under the regu-
lation of the Graduate School of Health Sciences and Gevher
Nesibe Genome and Stem Cell Institute. Currently, there are
approximately 120 graduate students in the programs and
the first students graduated at the end of the 2014-2015 aca-
demic year. GENKOK is also providing opportunities for the
bachelor’s student in order to have given opportunity to get
experience and to fulfill internships. The center is also provid-
ing opportunities for public awareness starting from primary
school students to high school students.
