VECTORS AND VECTOR BORNE
DISEASE IMPLEMENTATION AND
RESEARCH CENTRE (ERVEC)
The Vectors and Vector Borne Disease Implementation and
Research Centre (ERVEC) was established in 2009 in Erciyes
University with the cooperation of Faculty of Veterinary Medi-
cine, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of
Agriculture. The mission of ERVEC is to achieve effective pre-
vention and control of vector borne diseases (VBDs) in Turkey

with the collaboration local and international partners, and
the vision is to be a model center in disease prevention and
ERVEC is the unique center of Turkey in its area and researches
are focuses on the biological interactions between vectors
and infectious agents and between the vectors and verte-
brate hosts of these pathogens and parasites. The center also
engages in research on rickettsial, bacterial, protozoan and
helminth disease pathogens carried by vectors such as ticks,
fleas, crustaceans, mollusks, and rodents. Researchers in the
center have expertise in vector-borne veterinary and human
infectious diseases and in public health entomology. The
center is committed to protecting the community health and
partnering with stakeholders. In fighting VBDs, we focus on
rapid intervention and responsive risk communication. Mean-
while, we continue to strengthen the surveillance system, in-
fection control and laboratory diagnostic capacity; draw up
emergency response plans; conduct risk communication and
health promotion activities; and develop applied research and
training programs.
ERVEC has several research labs with connection to depart-
ment of parasitology, virology and microbiology of Veterinary
Faculty suitable for conventional and molecular studies.
ERVEC also has a well-equipped insectarium unit for rearing
several kind of insects especially mosquitos in order to per-
form model experimental studies and insecticide resistance
evaluations.
