Library Services

Erciyes University Central Library was established in 1975 as Gevher Nesibe Medical School Library. In 1978 when Kayseri University was first established, the central library was affiliated to the rectorship and in 2001 the central library was given a new location and building with the generous support of Kadir Has, one of Eciyes University’s benevolent benefactors. Kadir Has Central Library has an enclosed area of 10,400 m². The library has the capacity to host 128 people in the conference hall, along with 50 private study rooms and can hold more than 600 people at one time in the library.
The library collection has been classified according to the Library of Congress (LC) and the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classification system and services are provided according to the open shelf system.
All materials available in the library have been transferred to electronic media by using the Yordam 2001 Library Information-Document Automation Program (Yordam 2001 Kütüphane Bilgi-Belge Otomasyonu) with the intent that the users can access materials/reference documents via internet.

LOAN SERVICE:
Membership: Academic/administrative staff and students of Erciyes University can be a member of the library. University identification card is sufficient for registration.
Borrowing: Library members may borrow books from the library. University ID has to be shown when checking out the books.

Borrowing Rules
1. Library members (academic, administrative and students) are obliged to return the publications they check-out on time.
2. Failure to return checked out materials in a timely matter will result in a fine determined by the Department of Library and Documentation .
3. Any library members that lose a book are responsible for the replacement of the book in the ORIGINAL format. If the member is unable to submit the original material, they may submit two books of the same value, same subject, same language and latest publication. The member will also be responsible for any late fines. 4. For any members that leave the University for any reason need to notify the library that they are leaving the university and take care of any fines and return all materials that they have checked out.
5. Legal action will be taken for member who leave the university without returning the materials to the library.

RESERVE SERVICE:
Reserve collectionare composed of resources such as textbooks, supplementary textbooks, KPDS, UDS, LES, KPSS preparation books and art books that need to be protected. Reserve books may be requested by the course lecturers and upon the discretion of the librarians with approval of library management. These books can be borrowed to members that present an ID.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN SERVICE (ILL):
Our academic staff may request books and articles from other university libraries. Members can use this service by contacting our library.

ELECTRONIC RESOURCES SERVICE:
Full text access to e-books on various topics, e-journals and e-theses via the Internet is possible due to subscribed databases, and through TUBITAK EKUAL and the purchase of e-book packages. Many databases are open to trial access for specific periods of time.

PERIODICALS SERVICE:
The Periodicals Unit carries out the details of selection, provision and incorporation of printed and electronic journals collection , and provides guidance to the members regarding the use of these collections.

APPLICATION SERVICES:
Members are able to get assistance with library services, obtaining resources, literature search and membership user training is also available.

THESIS:
Expert, master and doctoral theses conducted at Erciyes University are available to those members that present an ID.

AUDIO-VISUAL SERVICES:
Science, art, general culture and language exams are available on DVD, VCD and/or CD that may be viewed in single and/or group setting in the hall which contains 100 computers with internet access. Cultural activities are also conducted in the conference hall that can seat 128 people. Wireless internet is available throughout the library.

ATATÜRK CORNER:
Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk photographs are exhibited in the Atatürk Corner.


HAKKI ATAMULU’S HOUSE OF ARTISTS:
The museum consists of books and artworks donated by famous sculptor, Hakkı Atamulu.


Prof. Dr. MEHMET ALTAY KÖYMEN’S BOOKSHELF:
Prof. Dr. Mehmet A. Köymen has donated various books on Turkish history in particular the Seljuk period that are available in Turkish, Arabic, Persian and English.

Prof. Dr. MEHMET KAPLAN LIBRARY:
The collection donated by Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kaplan consists mainly of literature works.
