“2024 Research Performance Evaluation Meeting and Award Ceremony”

The “2024 Research Performance Evaluation Meeting and Award Ceremony” was organized by the ERU Office of Dean for Research.

The event held at Erciyes Culture Center was attended by ERU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, KAYÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Kurtuluş Karamustafa, Member of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and ERU Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Derviş Karaboğa, ERU Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Oktay Özkan, M. Hakan Poyrazoğlu and Prof. Dr. Cevdet Kırpık, Secretary General Prof. Dr. İbrahim Narin, Deputy Secretary General Prof. Dr. Afşın Alper Cerit, senate members, faculty deans, academics, and students.

In his opening speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun stated that among the fundamental missions of universities are education and training, research and development, and social contribution processes.

He added: “Let us not forget that data only gains meaning as long as we can manage it. Otherwise, unmanaged data holds no value for us. Especially recently, digital advancements have highlighted big data processes, statistical evaluations, and their management, revealing important shifts in mission priorities. We can easily see in which fields we are strong and in which we produce more effective results. Our primary aim is not to compare the past or present. As a large Erciyes University family, if we can build upon what previous administrations and their teams have done to reach higher levels, we consider it a significant success. Therefore, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has been part of our university’s journey from its foundation until today, whether they are still with us or not.”

Our Rector also provided information about the research funds allocated by our university, stating: “One of the important factors in university management processes is research funding. The more you increase these funds and fairly distribute opportunities to valuable researchers in a way that yields scientific results, the more valuable outcomes you achieve. We currently have a fund reaching 240 million TL. However, when we examine this, we see that the funds of the seven state universities ahead of us start from 600 to 700 million TL during the same period. Therefore, increasing human resources and raising funds is among our primary duties. As long as we manage to achieve this, I believe that with our valuable human resources and ecosystem, we will produce even more effective research and better results.”

Dean of Research, Prof. Dr. Gökmen Zararsız, also noted that they are working to further strengthen ERU’s research ecosystem. He said: “With a data-driven strategic management approach, we organize various meetings across different platforms to evaluate not only the performance of our university but also our faculties, units, and researchers. At this point, Erciyes University continues to maintain its success among the leading research universities in our country with strong and quality research outputs.”

Following the opening speeches, ERU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. M. Hakan Poyrazoğlu delivered the “2024 Research Performance Evaluation” presentation.

Prof. Dr. Poyrazoğlu said: “Our goal is not to compete or compare the units with each other. We know that each unit has different internal dynamics. We are aware that research performance criteria do not fully address the social sciences field. However, there are criteria where each unit can stand out compared to others, and every unit should be able to reach its own peak. Each unit must conduct its own internal evaluation, identify its strengths and weaknesses, and plan its R&D strategy accordingly. R&D should become an institutional culture at Erciyes University; work should not be done merely to increase numbers but to produce knowledge, transform it into products, and convert these into financial resources through marketing,” he said.

Following his speech, Prof. Dr. M. Serdar Önses, a faculty member at the Engineering Faculty, gave a conference on “The Path to Success in ERC Projects.”

After Prof. Dr. Önses’s conference, the award ceremony took place.

During the ceremony, academic staff who showed high performance in various research projects in 2024 were presented with awards.
