It’s Time to wake up for Spermophilus Population, the Symbol of Campus

It’s time to emerge from hibernation for the Spermophilus population, the symbol of Erciyes University’s ecosystem.

The academics, staff members and students of our university are looking forward to the day when these tiny and cute creatures, also known as Anatolian squirrels or voles, will emerge.

The Animal Survival and Protection Club student community, carrying out activities under the ERU Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, organized a feeding event for the Spermophilus, the number of which has decreased in recent years.

Under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Ayhan Düzler, Head of the Anatomy Department/Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, the students left wheat, provided by the Rectorate of our university, around the living spaces detected on campus before by the ERU Spermophilus Monitoring Committee, and the nests that have a high living potential for the Spermophilus so that they do not suffer from hunger in the beginning when they will wake up and come out of the nests in spring.

The student community is planning to contribute to the natural life of the cute hosts of the campus with more comprehensive feeding programs in the coming periods.
