The "Pharmacy Crisis Health Integration Network" Introduced at Our University

The "Pharmacy Crisis Health Integration Network" (EKSEN), developed by the ERU Disaster and Emergency Pharmacy Club to enable rapid intervention during disasters and provide practical field experience to pharmacy students, was launched at a meeting.

The event held at Erciyes Culture Center was attended by AK Party Kayseri Member of Parliament Dr. Murat Cahid Cıngı, ERU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy Prof. Dr. Orhan Püsküllü, AFAD Provincial Director Rıfat Genç, Head of Disaster Affairs Department of Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Gonca Arın, as well as academics and students.

In his opening speech, AK Party MP Dr. Murat Cahid Cıngı emphasized the significance of the EKSEN software. He said: "It is very important that our students approach this issue with sensitivity and engage in this as a social activity. Because the most critical aspect during earthquakes is medical intervention and treatment, it is extremely important that our students develop this with a spirit of solidarity within the community. I congratulate all the students who contributed."

Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun congratulated the students who implemented the application and stressed that earthquake awareness is an element that should be instilled from an early age. He also stated that efforts to create earthquake-resistant structures at Erciyes University continue, adding: "We are continuing our works to establish resilient buildings on our campus, and starting this week, we are implementing demolition on buildings where strengthening or rebuilding costs are not feasible."

Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Prof. Dr. Orhan Püsküllü, congratulated the students of the Disaster and Emergency Pharmacy Club who developed and launched the network. He said, “The aim of this project is to deliver pharmaceutical products and facilitate their transportation during emergencies and disasters. I would like to thank the students of the Disaster and Emergency Pharmacy program for the social awareness they have demonstrated through this project, and I want to express how proud I am of them.”

AFAD Provincial Director Rıfat Genç also spoke, saying: “We want to spread this awareness worldwide. Imagine a group of students studying at a university when an earthquake occurs. They become concerned and ask themselves what they can do. They care about reducing the state’s vulnerability to disasters. This is very valuable to us. We live in a region where we don’t know when or where something might happen. Natural disasters in this geography increasingly worry us, and we try to take more precautions every day. The implementation of such a program is very important for us.”

Disaster and Emergency Pharmacy Club President Efe Sarp Kaya also gave a speech providing information about EKSEN.

He said: “Our responsibility is great. Our profession is not only about taking medicine off the shelf, but also about helping people and extending a compassionate hand. Our project is about our responsibilities; it is not just software. This project is a national coordination network that brings together the sense of volunteerism in pharmaceutical sciences and disaster awareness. It has a wide scope and is very important for our pharmacists.”

Following the opening speeches, the event continued with presentations by Prof. Dr. Göknur Yalım, President of the Disaster and Emergency Pharmacy Association, and Gonca Arın, Head of the Disaster Affairs Department of Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality.
