Our University did not Forget December 17 Martyrs

Our University commemorated 15 soldiers on duty at the 1st Commando Brigade Command who were martyred in the treacherous bombing terrorist attack on the public bus on December 17th, 2016 when they were on bazaar leave.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çalış, Prof. Dr. Murat Borlu, Prof. Dr. Recai Kılıç and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Sıtkı İlkay, Vice Rectors; Murat Yenisu, Secretary General; Prof. Dr. Hızır Yakup Akyıldız, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Prof. Dr. H. Kutay Taşdemir, Chief Physician of Hospitals, Venhar Çokkeçeci and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kasım Özgen, Deputies Secretary General and academic and administrative staff marched to the station where the attack took place with Turkish flags ahead of the Sabancı Cultural Complex.

Praying for the martyrs at the bus-stop where the attack took place, the ERU Administration left carnations for the martyrs. Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Çalış, said: “Nobody can dare to divide and separate this homeland”, and continued his words as follows: “Our 15 heroic soldiers were martryed and 54 soldiers became veterans in a treacherous and heinous attack 4 years ago. We are grateful to them. The blood of our martyrs is a deed of our country. Our internal and external enemies and traitors should know that each citizen of this homeland with a population of 83 million is a soldier and a candidate martyr. Noone can dare to divide and separate this homeland. As the Rector of Erciyes University, I would like to state the following words on behalf of all our members that the blood of our martyrs has not remained on the ground and will never be on the ground. No traitor can ever covet this homeland. On behalf of all our members, I wish mercy to our martyrs and patience to their families. My condolences.
