Our University Hosted the “International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence Law and Digitalization in Law”

The “International Symposium on Artificial Intelligence Law and Digitalization in Law” was organized by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and ERU Faculty of Law.

The symposium, held at the Sabancı Cultural Center, was attended by Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, ERU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker, Member of the Higher Education Council and ERU Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Derviş Karaboğa, Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Burak Adıgüzel, as well as academicians and students.

In his opening speech, Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç stated that ERU is the pride of Kayseri and emphasized that the Metropolitan Municipality is always ready to host studies in the field of artificial intelligence.

Expressing his happiness to be in Kayseri, TÜBA President Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker stated that our university is a milestone in the university-formation process of Anatolia.

Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Şeker noted: “Technology grants power when it is acquired early, but if it is obtained late, it consumes you. Viewing this process in this way, I would like to emphasize that our topic, artificial intelligence, requires a multidisciplinary perspective within its own relations. As TÜBA, we always strive to evaluate each subject in a multidisciplinary manner, reflecting not only the bureaucratic and academic sides but also the views of individuals, citizens, and consumers, and we reflect this blended approach in our scientific activities. Along with digital transformation processes, TÜBA has long been following a multidimensional approach to the social impacts of digitalization. It also has a working group established in this area, and this group organizes events through its members.”

ERU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun stated in his speech that they were pleased to host the event and said: “The concept of artificial intelligence continues to evolve today as a means of quickly accessing information and obtaining results in a shorter time. However, we must not exclude the human factor from these processes. Artificial intelligence, as an algorithm, memorizes and tries to learn certain topics, but it can only learn to the extent that data is provided. Therefore, in cases of data abundance, artificial intelligence will yield more effective outcomes and produce significant research results.”

Prof. Dr. Burak Adıgüzel, Dean of the Faculty of Law, also stated: “The Artificial Intelligence and Digitalization Symposium essentially aims to address the problems emerging alongside today’s technological advancements. However, beyond that, law can no longer progress on its own. The use of artificial intelligence has started to have a major impact on the field of law.”

Prof. Dr. Şafak Narbay, Dean of Sakarya University Faculty of Law, added in his speech: “This symposium will serve not only as a platform for technical discussion, but also for ethical, societal, and legal inquiry. In this context, it is extremely valuable and its timing is highly appropriate.”

Symposium Coordinator and ERU Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Murat Doğan provided information about the symposium, drawing attention to the fact that artificial intelligence has begun to be used in many areas of the legal field.

Following the opening speeches, a thematic session was held, moderated by Prof. Dr. Derviş Karaboğa, during which presentations were delivered by academics.
