among the research areas too. The academic staff consists of a
professor, two associate professors, three assistant professors,
and a research assistant. The department has five research
laboratories offer students at graduate and undergraduate
levels with opportunities for application skills. Graduates of
field crops can be employed in the Ministry of Agriculture and
Forestry, private sector agricultural companies, seed compa-
nies, universities, unions and cooperatives working for the
public interest, banks, agricultural consultancy.
FACULTIES This department provides training and conducts research in
• Horticulture
fruit growing, viticulture, and vegetable growing, reproduc-
tion, improvement, and the pre- and post-growth physiol-
ogy of plants. Priority is given to issues in Central Anatolia as
research topics, with a specific focus on new species of fruit
and vegetables and their variations that can be grown in this
region.
• Plant Protection
Plant Protection program safeguards of Central Anatolia agri-
culture and natural resources against the entry, establishment,
and spread of economically and environmentally significant
pests, and facilitates the safe trade of agricultural products.
The department consists of subsections of Entomology and
Phytopathology. Phytopathology is a multi-faceted discipline
that comprises many diverse subjects. Phytopathology ad-
dresses the interactions between pathogenic microorganisms
and crops. The focus is on studies on physiological, biochemi-
cal and molecular mechanisms of interaction in the system
plant pests along with the establishment of effective, environ-
mentally-friendly control methods. Entomology is the study
of insects. It is an interdisciplinary life science that contributes
much to our understanding of life, our environment, and the
well-being of our society. Insects are the predominant species
on Earth, representing the greatest biodiversity with more
than one million known species.
