“12 May Nurses’ Day and 12-18 May Nurses’ Week” Celebrated at Our University Hospitals

A celebration program was organized for all nurses as part of the “12 May Nurses’ Day and 12-18 May Nurses’ Week” activities at ERU Medical Faculty Hospitals.

The program, held at the Chief Physician’s Meeting Hall, was attended by ERU Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. M. Hakan Poyrazoğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. İsmail Dursun, Chief Physician of Hospitals Prof. Dr. İbrahim Halil Kafadar, Deputy Chief Physicians Dr. Şahin Temel and Dr. Burcu Baran, Chief Administrator Özcan Özyurt, hospital managers, nurses, and staff.

Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. M. Hakan Poyrazoğlu said: “You are not only our colleagues but also our friends, siblings, and children, and we perform this profession together. We provide health services together. Nurses make a heartfelt difference in people’s lives. While doing this, you often neglect your own troubles, problems, and families. You do this with passion for your duty. I thank all of you for your efforts and sacrifices. I feel very lucky to work with you, and we are proud of you. We wish you a wonderful day and week. Thank you very much.”

Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. İsmail Dursun said: “I want to call you my comrades because we manage many challenging processes together. We touch people’s lives, and when we hear expressions from patients and their relatives, it reminds us how valuable our work is. We know for sure that you work with superhuman strength.”

Chief Physician Prof. Dr. İbrahim Halil Kafadar also stated: “Nursing is truly a sacred profession. It sometimes requires patience, great effort, and dedication. You face difficulties at times, but never forget that you are valuable, important, and precious to us. We are all a family. I congratulate you on this special day and wish you many peaceful, healthy years.”

Head Nurse Fatma Yeşil said: “Today, we have come together to honor the nursing profession, a symbol of sacrifice, compassion, and service to humanity. Nursing week is not just to celebrate our profession but also to remember how important and indispensable our duty is. We are glad that nurses who bring hope, trust, and healing to our patients every day exist. I thank all my colleagues who work with dedication even under difficult conditions, serving devotedly. I also extend endless thanks to the rectorate, deanery, and chief physician for their support and help in resolving our problems.”

Patient Zeynep Bilgin, who is receiving treatment at our hospital, shared her feelings and thoughts on the occasion of “12 May Nurses’ Day and 12-18 May Nurses’ Week.”

Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. M. Hakan Poyrazoğlu and Chief Physician Prof. Dr. İbrahim Halil Kafadar presented flowers to Head Nurse Fatma Yeşil, and Dean Prof. Dr. İsmail Dursun presented flowers to patient Zeynep Bilgin.

The “12-18 May Nurses’ Week” events continued with presentations titled “The Development and Current Status of Intensive Care Nursing in Türkiye” by Prof. Dr. Kürşat Gündoğan and Intensive Care Nurse Kübra Özdemir; “The Future of Intensive Care Nursing” by Prof. Dr. Ayşe Ülgey and Intensive Care Nurse Yurdagül Sezen Shafieihesar; a discussion with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuray Şimşek titled “Where Does the Compass Point?”; a tree planting event by Erciyes University Medical Faculty Hospital Nurses supported by the Regional Forestry Directorate; and a concert by the Kigder TSM Choir at the Sabancı Cultural Center.
