Turkish Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering organized the “18th National Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering and the “2nd Young Geotechnical Engineers Symposium” at our university.

ERU Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, President of Turkish Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Dr. Rasin Düzceer, academics and students attended the event held at Erciyes Culture Center.

Speaking on behalf of the organizing committee at the opening of the event, Asst. Prof. Hacı Bekir Kara, a faculty member at the Department of Civil Engineering/Faculty of Engineering, gave information about the event program.

Asst. Prof. Kara said: “The most important aim of our congress is to transfer personal and institutional knowledge, to share and discuss information. We think that brainstorming and mutual interactions that will be organized by sharing opinions in constructive environments during discussion will open new horizons for our colleagues and participants.”

Giving information about the activities of the Turkish Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Dr. Rasin Düzceer thanked our Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun for hosting the event.

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun drew attention to the fact that geotechnical engineering is one of the indispensable departments in the field of civil engineering. Stating that they were happy to host the event, Rector Altun continued as follows: “Earthquake is the reality of our country. Earthquakes always affect the buildings. We should not ignore how important geotechnics is, how sensitive the soil investigations are and that the project should be designed by taking account of the features of the buildings to be built.”
