Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar gave a lecture on “New Generation Defense Industry in Türkiye and The Importance of Kayseri” at our University. Before the conference, a “Co-operation Protocol on Space Sciences and Satellite Technologies Laboratory” was signed between our University and Turkish Aerospace (TUSAS).

Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, Governor Gökmen Çiçek, Garrison Commander and 2nd Air Supply and Maintenance Center Manager Brigadier General Haldun Taşan, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, our Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun, Rector of Kayseri University Prof. Dr. Kurtuluş Karamustafa, Rector of Abdullah Gül University Prof. Dr. Cengiz Yılmaz, Rector of Sivas University of Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kul, Provincial Gendarme Commander Brigadier General Yüksel Yiğit, Mayors of Districts, Chairmen of Chambers, our Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Oktay Özkan, Prof. Dr. Sultan Taşcı and Prof. Dr. M. Hakan Poyrazoğlu, our Secretary General Prof. Dr. İbrahim Narin, officials, senate members of our university, academics and students attended the event held at Erciyes Cultural Center.

First, Dombra Group gave a concert at the conference that started with a moment of silence and the Turkish National Anthem.

Making the opening speech of the event, our Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun thanked Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar for his participation.

Giving information about the achievements of our university, our Rector said: “Since its establishment, Erciyes University is among the most important universities of higher education. It is an institution serving not only the region but also the country and the world by contributing significantly in terms of social contribution with educational activities and R&D studies. From the point of R&D, we are such a university that produced vaccine and presented it for the benefit of humanity.”

Our Rector also gave information about the studies conducted regarding the university-industry co-operation and said that they were in collaboration with Turkish Aerospace (TUSAS), Havelsan, Roketsan, ASELSAN, and ASPILSAN.

Underscoring the importance of the protocol signed, Rector Altun continued as follows: “It is very important for us that TUSAS will take part especially in R&D park of our university, and that it will open an office at the university in the coming period and be involved in research with the academics. Especially, recently, when we think about the Tomtas structuring in Kayseri, I would like to express that we also exist as Erciyes University Technology Development Zone Technopark and would like to serve and contribute significantly to the process. We want to fulfill our duty as a university in order to revive our spirit that we have had since 1926 by establishing an aviation institute because universities are homes of science and technology.”

Addressing the young people in his speech, our Rector said: “We also endeavor to raise our young people in a way that they will have the knowledge and infrastructure to produce new projects and make inventions in the following processes.”
