375 students of Term 1, who started medical education at the Faculty of Medicine, wore their white coats at the ceremony.

Hakan Poyrazoğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Hızır Yakup Akyıldız, Dean of Kayseri Faculty of Medicine/University of Health Sciences Prof. Dr. İlhami Çelik, Dean of Faculty of Fine Arts Prof. Dr. Aygül Aykut, Chief Physician of Hospitals Prof. Dr. Fatih Horozoğlu, Chief Physician of Kayseri State Hospital Assoc. Prof. İsmail Altıntop, Chairman of Chamber of Medicine Dr. Türkmen Bahadır Arıkan, academics, students and families attended the ceremony held at Erciyes Culture Center.
Assoc. Prof. İsmail Altıntop, Prof. Dr. İlhami Çelik and Dr. Türkmen Bahadır Arıkan made speeches at the ceremony and wished success to the new students.
Prof. Dr. Hızır Yakup Akyıldız mentioned about the importance of the profession of a doctor in his speech. He said: “Our students will go through a difficult education in order to deserve this coat. Over the years, they will realize one of the important differences that distinguishes the profession they have chosen from many other professions. Their profession will force them to improve themselves continuously and to be tested in front of each patient. The first way to pass these tests is to read a lot, work hard and follow the developments. By reading a lot, you will have the nuances that will reveal your difference. By working hard, you will increase your practice and experience. By keeping in touch with your teachers, you will plan your vision and future appropriately.”
In his speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Fatih Altun said that Erciyes University is an important higher education institution that has made a name for itself with its achievements since its establishment.
Addressing the parents in his speech, our Rector said: “You have raised your children with great devotion and entrusted them to us. Considering the academic staff and opportunities of Erciyes University Faculty of Medicine, I would like to express wholeheartedly that necessary efforts will be made in order to enable our students to graduate from a successful medical school and become medical doctors.”
Giving advice to the students, Rector Altun continued as follows: “You, our students, are here today after a very important marathon. You have achieved significant success. However, you should never forget that the key to success is sustainability. I advise you not to waste your time during the six-year education you will have. Although this period seems like a long time, you will remember the first day you have come to school and you will graduate. I sincerely hope that you will make the best of this time and be well-qualified because there are very qualified academic staff members who will train you here and will provide all kinds of support for you. I have always thought in life what success depends on. It first depends on loving your job. When you become 5th Term students, I recommend you to be committed to your profession, instead of thinking whether you will become a doctor. The second is to work hard. As your Rector, I advise you to always be compassionate towards your patients and serve them happily.”
The ceremony ended after the 1st Term students wore their white coats.
